Day two is here and I'm excited about this one! I've really been into these and macrame for the past year and was excited to finally get a couple in our home. When Megan (owner of Spinning Weaves) started creating these I was so excited and couldn't wait to have my hands on them. We have one hanging in our hallway and I have to touch it every time I walk past just because it is so ridiculously soft. When I see that she has posted a new one I want it, but unfortunately, my husband has to put a limit on it or I would have multiple hanging in each room. ;)

I was able to watch Megan start a weaving not too long ago and I'm impressed with the attention to detail she puts into it. She's always been super creative, but it's great to see her put it to work in different ways.

I've asked Megan the same set of questions, be sure to check them out.

What inspired you to start Spinning Weaves?

One day last year I was browsing my favorite blog A Beautiful Mess when I found a beginner tutorial on how to create your own weaving. I immediately thought, “Wow, that would be such a neat hobby to have!” but I never pursued it any further than the thought. Flash forward a few months later to the holiday season and my husband and I started discussing our plans for exchanging gifts for Christmas. We each decided it would be fun to gift each other with something relating to a hobby we were interested in. I immediately thought, “I want a loom!” but I just halfhearted hinted that I would like to try my hand at weaving. Needless to say, he presented me with a beautiful loom on Christmas morning and I have been weaving ever since. It wasn’t until around May of 2017 that I started selling my pieces. I began to realize that if I wanted to continue in this trade than I would need to find a way to sustain myself. It’s been a wonderful ride so far!

What’s your favorite piece and why?

It’s so hard to choose a favorite. I feel like that changes to every new piece I make. I will find myself a favorite for a short while until I make something that unexpectedly takes its place at the top of my list. I do have a favorite at the moment but I won’t be sharing it until my fall launch on Nov 30th.

Who did you have in mind while creating your product?

I don’t typically have any set person in mind when I'm creating a piece. In a way, they are all for me. I create because it fills a void that I feel was lost for so long. I’ve always been a creative person but after getting married and becoming a mom I went so long without having any sort of creative outlet. I started to just sit and wonder who I was amidst all the chaos. Weaving has completely filled that gap and has allowed me to express that side of me again.

Describe your creative process from design to production.

The creative process differs sometimes. I pull a lot of inspiration from people who I look up to in the business. I am completely self-taught so I do a LOT of learning from different tutorials and videos. Recently I have been digging into the world of textile printing so I have been pulling a lot of inspiration from things I see in that area of the web. Once I get an idea in my head I will start with a sketch on paper and work my color scheme into the design from there. Other times, when I’m working mostly with wool roving, I will just make it up as I go and see where it takes me. Pretty professional, right?!

Check out her etsy shop here

If you're in the market for a custom piece she can make it happen too, just check out her etsy for all that info! If you're in the Louisville area this Saturday November 18th she's doing a pop up at Madewell in Oxmoor Mall from 12-2pm. Be there or be square.
